DESCRIPTION:Get ready to go birding by participating in the Birds of a Feather program at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park’s newly renovated James Family Conservatory and Nature Center. \nThis is a program for birders of all ages and levels. We introduce a different birding topic each session to begin the program. When weather permits\, we will head outdoors for a hike or time in the birding area. The program runs approximately 60-90 minutes and is offered on select Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. on a monthly basis. \nOn April 1\, participants will learn more about spring migration patterns and discover when and where to find migrating birds as the spring season begins! \nThis program is free but a 2025 park entry vehicle permit is required.

The large blind holds up to 8 guests. A small popup blind that can hold up to two people will also be available to reserve for photographers with larger equipment. Then join us for Nebraska’s Big Butterfly Count Virtual Training Workshop \nNebraska’s Big Butterfly Count is a community science project that is designed to collect statewide data in order to better understand butterfly diversity across Nebraska. During this virtual workshop you will learn about community science\, how to identify eastern/central Nebraska butterfly species\, and how you can contribute to Nebraska’s Big Butterfly Count. Participants will receive project resources\, guidance\, and support from community science project leaders. \nWe are looking for dedicated volunteers that are willing to conduct a survey at least once every other week\, from May 1st through September 30th. \n*Attendance on both dates and one associated field day is required to participate in this project* \nThis workshop is FREE to attend.
